The Gulf State Guards, 2nd Florida, Company F, is a Confederate reenactors unit that participates in The War Between the States battle reenactments. We also volunteer for living history encampments, Honor Guard duties, Confederate and Union Soldier headstone placement ceremonies, holiday parades, Memorial Day services, Veterans Day services, and public schools "show and tell" events for students involving history and depictions of The War Between the States soldiers.
Our purposes are to promote historical education and historical preservation, with accurate and correct information regarding Southern History and Confederate History. We welcome all persons who are interested and encourage family participation in our events including children with at least one parent present at all times during our events. In order to become a musket carrying soldier, all soldiers must be at least 16 years of age, must be able to be authentically dressed in military attire and accoutrements, be willing to accurately and safely demonstrate the manual of arms, and be able to safely clean and care for all equipment. Any soldier who is under 18 years of age must be accompanied by at least one parent or a guardian at all times during any events. We encourage family members to join as a family and participate in either civilian, military, medical, or camp life reenactor activities. We are primarily a Confederate Infantry unit. Some our members also enjoy participating as artillery, medical, civilian, cooks, camp life, and militia reenactment activities. We do have members who will "galvanize" which means they will dress out in Confederate gray or Union blue if the circumstances call for equalizing or balancing the numbers of troops at an event. We also dress as the Pawnee Guards at selected events where US Marines participated in the battles.
NEW RECRUITS & FAMILY MEMBERS
We will give advice to new recruits and will loan them equipment to get started. We will advise them and assist them when they begin to purchase their uniforms and equipment and will train them in the proper and safe use of all accoutrements. Most new members have all the necessary equipment on their own by the end of the first season of reenacting.
